Out of the forest
A good while back I was approached by R16 to provide sound design and mix for their upcoming title, Tale’s Edge teaser. Rob Heller is making a game in a new way, very much out in the open and engaging his community. I strongly believe in this style and how he’s built not only the team but how he is creating the game. It was a blast to help contribute to the teaser trailer with custom sound design and then mixing in the excellent VO and music.
There’s not much else I can say right now but check out the Steam page and watch the trailer below. As R16 shares more info, I’ll be sure to help promote it.
Jams and Joysticks Interview
I sat down with the folks from Jams and Joysticks to chat about all things game audio and that interview is now public as well. We had a great talk and, hopefully, there’s some useful and encouraging nuggets in there. You can check out the interview below:
Hustling
As some of you know, I was laid off from Unbroken Studios March 1st. It was really an unfortunate thing and there continues to be a huge amount of layoffs across our industry right now. Times are tough and folks are hurting. Have you been through a layoff? If so, I recommend this article I wrote about strategies I’ve used in the past to get through this hard experience. Since the layoff, I’ve been able to gather up a decent chunk of freelancing and have worked on a number of games and projects. It’s paying the bills and I’m learning new skills as well as workflows all the time. I’m very thankful for this but I’ll not lie – it’s been tough! None of these projects are announced yet – with the exception of Trash Heist, for which I’m doing music and sound design. I’ve also been helping out with creature design for The Isle. More info to come once it’s made public!
I’m still hunting for my next in-house, full-time adventure. If you know of anything where I might be a good fit, please let me know! I can work in Unreal, Unity, WWise and FMOD. Just in case you missed it, I have an updated Game Audio Reel:
That’s about all for now. It’s a stressful time for so many and the world isn’t making it any easier. So, to quote Jerry Springer; “take care of yourself and each other.”
